School begins each day at 9.20 a.m. Small break is from 11 a.m. to 11.10 a.m. Lunch is from 12.30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Classes are dismissed at 3 p.m.
Other than “at going home time” boys are never allowed leave the school grounds without a written note signed by a parent.
Positive discipline is always encouraged throughout the school. The code of discipline is available for view in the school and is signed by each parent. The children’s homework journals also contain other school rules. Serious breaches of discipline are recorded in the discipline book.

Our school is a Catholic school and so Christian values underpin all our work. The Catholic ethos promotes the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the child; intellectual, emotional, spiritual and moral. Children say morning and evening prayers and follow the Alive O programme.

Homework is assigned in accordance with the school plan for homework and is written by the pupils in their journals, which should be signed at night by a parent. If homework is undone children are expected to present a signed note from home.
There is a school plan for handwriting and children are encouraged to present their best effort.
Please find below an enrolment form, which can be printed and returned to the school if needed
Home School in Scoil Eoin Phóil 11
Home School’s goals are -:
- Building partnership with parents.
- Parental involvement in the life of the school
- Parents involving themselves in the education of their children
- Networking with voluntary and statutory groups in the community.
- The setting up of a Parent’s Room.
- The setting up of a Local Committee
Building partnership with the parents is worked out through home visits and meeting parents formally and informally. The Home School Coordinator goes out to visit with no agenda other than building rapport with the parents. It is the coordinator’s role to work closely with the principal and staff.
Parental Involvement in the School and in the Education of their children.
Parents are involved in -:
Maths for fun
Fun Day consisting of games and activities
Yard games at lunch
Reading stories to students
Coffee mornings
Cake sale
Big brother club
Transition workshops for parents whose children were transferring to Second Level Schools
Final Gathering Ritual for 6th class students and their parents
Networking with Voluntary and Statuary Bodies
An important part of the Home School is networking with Voluntary and Statutory Bodies. If parents have a particular need e.g. wish to involve their children in After School Activities, the coordinator would contact the particular organisation and give the necessary information to the parent. Here in Scoil Eoin Phóill 11, the coordinator would have strong links with -:
Barnardos,
School Completion Programme,
Better Educational Start in Tullamore,
St. Vincent de Paul,
St. Mary’s Youth Centre,
Junior Liaison Officer,
Health Service Executive,
Tullamore Travellers Movement,
Adult Learning Centre and VTOS
The Setting up of The Parent’s Room
Parent’s Room is a place where parents can pop in for a chat with one another or to discuss an issue with the Coordinator. It is a welcoming room for everyone. This is where the organised classes and courses take place. This is where meetings are held.
The Local Committee
The Local Committee consists of members of the Voluntary and Statutory Bodies, parents, 6th class representatives, the school principle and the coordinator. The goal of the Local Committee is to focus on an issue which is impinging on the students and to take positive action to alleviate the issue.
Our Local Committee has been involved in the following projects -:
- Drugs Awareness Evening for parents,
- Anti Bullying Week to promote positive behaviour
- Gathering the information and compiling “The Directory of Activities” which informed parents of all After School Activities, the cost of each activity and contact person. The project was sponsored by Carroll Cuisine
- Yard games at Lunch Time to involve the students in play
- The Big Brother Fun Club where some 6th Class students were involved in being Big Brothers to the incoming 3rd class
- The Big Tree Fun Club where other 6th Class Students did scribing with Senior Infants in St. Joseph’s.
Home School is creating an atmosphere where parents are welcomed into the school, where their contribution to the life of the school is valued, and their involvement in the education of their children is appreciated. Every year, Home School is trying to create new opportunities to build partnership with parents and network with voluntary and statuary organisations.
