Scoil Eoin Phóil was opened as a boys school inSeptember 1980 with two teachers, Principal, Donal Brady. At that time the school had four single classrooms and two shared-area classrooms, which have since been changed to four single classrooms. The school in the early 90s catered for 268 pupils and eight class teachers. Today, the school is still a very prosperingschool. The school classes range from third to sixth inclusive and our feeder school is the neighbouring St. Joseph’s junior school which is on the same campus.

Scoil Eoin Phóil was situated on an open plan site in the centre of a complex of about 300 council houses, until 2002 when the school was refurbished and a perimeter fence erected. The school also serves areas further a field, three other council estates and private housing families on and off the Kilbeggan road, the clara road, some south of the canal and a few country children. In 1992 the school was granted disadvantaged status and given a concessionary post.
